How to use NoorMap, and how not to.

Last updated 2026-05-31.

Who runs it

NoorMap is part of the ummah-network, a values-aligned infrastructure layer for the Muslim community built so that the Ummah owns its identity, audit, commerce, and discovery primitives rather than renting them from surveillance capitalism. The site is operated by the ummah-network volunteer team.

What you can do

  • Use the map for personal and non-commercial discovery — find a masjid for Maghrib, food you can eat without doubt, a school for your children, a graveyard for your parents, a business run by someone who shares your scruples.
  • Embed entity pageson community websites — link to a mosque or business page from your masjid’s site, your blog, your khutbah notes. Attribution back to noormap.com is required.
  • Submit places you find missingvia the “Suggest a place” button on the map. Single listings, full directory dumps for an area, and new audit-body registrations are all welcome. Submissions go through light human moderation before publication.

What you can’t do

  • Bulk-scrape the entity payload to build a competing directory. We rate-limit /api/entitiesand will block IP ranges that try. The ledger represents years of cleanup and source-priority work; taking it wholesale to bootstrap a competitor isn’t reuse, it’s exfiltration.
  • Sell or redistribute the entity data commercially without written permission. Personal use, community reuse, and academic research are fine. Commercial repackaging needs a conversation first — email listings@noormap.com.
  • Inject content that violates the Charter. That means no submissions designed to hand surveillance vectors to third parties, no commercial spam dressed up as listings, no impersonation of mosques or businesses you don’t represent, no listings that exist to harass another community. We will remove violating content and revoke contribution privileges on the offending UmmahPassport account.

Takedowns and corrections

If you’re a mosque administrator, business owner, school principal, or otherwise represent an entity on NoorMap and you want your entry removed, corrected, or claimed so you can manage it directly:

Email listings@noormap.com from a contact address publicly associated with the entity (the address on the mosque website, the business’s listed phone / email, etc.) so we can verify you’re who you say you are.

We process takedowns within 7 days.If a takedown is urgent — active impersonation, doxxing, threats — flag it as such in the subject line and we’ll triage same-day.

Long-term, the canonical ledger lives in Iḥsān Standards; when their owner self-service surface ships, claim and edit flows will move there and you’ll manage your listing through a UmmahPassport sign-in. Until then, email is the path.

Disclaimers — what we don’t warrant

  • Listings can be stale. Entries are sourced from public directories — Zabihah, OpenStreetMap, state Secretary-of-State filings, NPI, certified-halal bodies (HFSAA, HMS, IFANCA), and community submissions. We deduplicate and we apply source-priority rules, but addresses change, businesses close, and mosques relocate. If you spot a stale entry, the Suggest form takes corrections just like new submissions.
  • No warranty on halal certification. We surface what the certifier publishes; we are not the certifier. If ritual purity matters for your purchase, verify the certificate with the certifying body directly. The map distinguishes Certified (third-party seen) from Reported (Zabihah / Google said halal but no certificate sighted) for exactly this reason — read the badge before you buy.
  • Prayer times via Athan+ are mosque-published. We mirror what the masjid publishes; we don’t validate the calculation method or the iqamah delta. If the masjid’s feed is wrong, the map will be wrong with it. Confirm with the masjid for janazah, taraweeh, and other time-sensitive plans.
  • The map is provided “as is.” No guarantees of uptime, accuracy, or completeness. We do the work carefully because the Ummah deserves it, not because a contract requires it.

Attribution

If you reuse NoorMap content — embedded entity pages, screenshots of the map, exports of a public dataset we publish — please link back to noormap.com so users can verify the source and report corrections upstream.

Governing law

NoorMap is provided as a non-commercial public-interest directory on an “as-is, as-available” basis, with no warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose.
